The author, Nigel Morley, is a freelance independent registered pharmacist and is considered to be the leading expert in dispensing doctor dispensing and prescribing. He provides advice, training, consultancy, financial modelling and research papers to and for academic institutions, Strategic Health Authorities, Primary Care Organisations, individual medical practices and the pharmaceutical industry. His team also has specialised pharmaceutical software and websites relating to drug purchasing, drug formularies and other aspects of the prescribing and dispensing interface; they are leading trainers of dispensing doctor dispensers, managers, GPs, nurse prescribers and PCO Pharmaceutical and Medical Advisers.
Nigel’s activities also include organising and running of medical and pharmaceutical conferences and workshops and medical journalism, especially his own monthly Dispextm newsletter, and telephone help-line for GPs in general and dispensing practices in particular.
He has been instrumental in instituting tutorial practice visits to assist practices in producing guidelines and protocols concerning their repeat prescribing procedures and for dispensing practices additionally, their dispensing procedures.
Nigel and his team are at the cutting edge of development and production of formularies and SOPs for individual medical practices, PCOs and Strategic Health Authorities. The formularies and SOPs are produced for both dispensing and prescribing practices and reflect the needs of the individual practice or group of practices.
Audit is the cornerstone of many of the national service frameworks and the new GP contract. Nigel and his team have developed a suite of automated audits for general practice that cover controlled drugs, coronary heart disease, diabetes, asthma and other important clinical areas.
